Abstract (eng)
The following master thesis is about the analysis of the mother-daughter-relationship in the novels of Hermynia zur Mühlen Unsere Töchter, die Nazinen and Das Riesenrad. In both novels the mother-daughter-relationship is essential, whereas in Unsere Töchter, die Nazinen this relationship becomes stronger due to detestation, sorrow, problems. The mothers prove to be real mothers who are ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their children. On the other hand we come across a blemished mother-daughter-relationship in the novel Das Riesenrad. Therein the mother neither feels like a mother nor acts as such, what is embodied for instance in the jealousy of her own daughter or also in the fact that her daughter represents sort of burden for her.
The following paper analyses the aspects of the named relationships and compares them to each other. The focus lies, among other things, on the attempt to crystallize possible personal aspects from the author´s life. Besides, the question will be pursued, if the author really considered her heroes in the books as her children and if she managed with her work and her rebellion to help the impecunious and unprivileged people, which was her idea from the beginning. The second focus of the thesis refers to the hypothesis that a mother remains a devoted mother, willing to make sacrifices, due to the fact that the bound of a mother with the daughter to whom she gave birth and raised her, is strong. On the basis of the both following novels are carved those relationship constellations.
Since her works are coloured autobiographically it is essential to explain some focal points of the life of Hermynia Zur Mühlen. The secondary literature that occupies itself with the opus of Hermynia zur Mühlen is not numerous. Mostly, there are short scientific articles that repeat the similar aspects and relegate to the same information or bring her in connection with the antifascism and exile literature. There are neither articles nor studies that are engaged in the relationship to her mother or that deal with the question in what way she projected this relationship to her works. With the aid of analysis of the two named novels is important to show how complex her works are, how did impact them her duster relationship to her mother and to what extent are children stylized as protagonists, even though she remained without children.
Concluding, the results of the paper are presented in the last chapter.
