Abstract (eng)
The present thesis deals with the life and work of the Bishop of St. Pölten,
Michael MEMELAUER (1874-1961). While the first large section attempts a comprehensive biographical account, the two other chapters are each devoted to an exemplary sub-area of Memelauer’s pastoral work. The first of these areas is formed by the Liturgical Movement, connected with the question of how far its spread in the diocese of St. Pölten is related to the direct and indirect promotion by Memelauer. The last major chapter deals with the second Diocesan Synod in St. Pölten, convened by Bishop Memelauer in 1937.
In addition to a brief examination of the historical circumstances surrounding the convening, course and reception of the Synod, the focus of this section is on the substantive Synod topics, which is why particular attention is paid to the papers presented there.
