Abstract (eng)
In this master’s thesis, cinematic forms of representation of sexualized violence in four randomly
selected feature films from the sample of the Austrian Film Gender Report 2012-2016 (Flicker and
Vogelmann 2018) are systematically evaluated using the method of “Soziologisches Filmlesen”
(Flicker and Zehenthofer 2018) which translates into a method of sociological film reading. The
evaluations focus on the narrative film content and forms of representation. Theories of genderspecific
violence and film-theoretical knowledge form the framework for viewing feature films as
interpretations of Austrian society through a qualitative approach. Furthermore, the content of
Austrian feature films is presented in the form of viscourses, which are understood as pre-linguistic
references to each other and occur repeatedly throughout the material. Media images influence
what is communicated and thus our ideas of gender and consequently also of gender-specific
violence. This is not only visible in the depiction of sexualized violence, but also concerning the
visualization of gender and body within the film material.
