Abstract (eng)
The Master's thesis investigates stigmatization in the migration society. With the help of eight problem-centered interviews, the research questions were examined as to what kind of stigmatization is experienced by Russian migrants in Austria, how they deal with stigmatization and which coping strategies are formed. Grounded theory based on Kathy Charmaz was used to evaluate the interviews. The study’s results show that the interviewed Russian migrants in Austria experience the “polite” and silent stigma and the stigma of “the bad guys” regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine. As coping strategies, those affected develop “immunity” against stigmatization and use the triangulation of other Russian migrants. To handle the stigma of the “bad guys”, the interviewees use avoidance strategies and the coping strategies of justification.
