Abstract (eng)
The Croats in Slovakia belong to the Burgenland Croatian ethnic group that settled in the Pannonian region in the 16th century. Due to the eventful historical development and as a result of a long process of assimilation into the majority society, only four communities in Slovakia are now considered Croatian. Today the Croatian ethnic group represents one of the smallest minorities in Slovakia. The focus of the thesis is on research of the spatial identity of Slovak Croats. It attempts to uncover the identity-forming characteristics of their culture, as well as to examine the future prospects of its preservation under the intensive suburbanization and assimilation process. The question of their internal cohesion and participation in community life and interactions with the remaining Burgenland Croats is also examined. Finally, the potential tourism valorization of the spatial identity of Slovak Croats is examined, as well.
