Abstract (eng)
The aim of this master thesis is Austria's foreign policy efforts in the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia. Austria has been actively involved in conflict resolution and regional stabilization, particularly between Kosovo and Serbia, utilizing diplomatic measures, mediation, and support on bilateral and international levels. Austria's foreign policy aims to support peace, stability, and cooperation in the Western Balkans. In addition the qualitative study analyzes various literary sources to answer the question::To what extent have Austria's political actions contributed to the current relationship between Kosovo and Serbia? In order to answer this question the focus of this work centers on the complex relationship between Kosovo and Serbia, characterized by historical conflicts, territorial tensions, and ethnic identities. These bilateral relations continue to be influenced by challenges in governance, minority rights, and the status of Northern Kosovo. In general, the emphasis lies on Austria's neutral mediator status between the countries, particularly in negotiations and meetings aimed at normalizing their relations. Furthermore Austria supported numerous agreements and provided financial and technical assistance for the region's reconstruction and development while also intensifying efforts to approach EU integration. In essence Austria's diplomacy supports democratic structures and contributes to maintaining dialogue, laying the groundwork for a long-term solution. In conclusion the paper highlights Austria's efforts in fostering constructive relations between Kosovo and Serbia, illustrating Austria's role as a key actor in regional stability, supporting dialogue, and implementing agreements between the two entities.
