Abstract (eng)
This master's thesis deals with the portrayal tendencies of refugees at the newspaper Kronen Zeitung. Consequently, the following question arose: How are refugees negotiated both visually and linguistically within the articles from the first half of 2023 and what are the kind of projected implications of refugees that are thereby conveyed. Methodologically, visual segment analysis according to Breckner (2012) was used in the course of image analysis, and a text analysis based on the fine-structure analysis according to Froschauer and Lueger (2020) was conducted. The juxtaposition of the respective results ultimately identified four representation strategies, all of which can be located within a spectrum of proximity or distancing and adopt different attitudes towards refugees. Consequently, it could be shown that the staging methods in the analyzed print medium of Kronen Zeitung range between expressions of solidarity on the one hand and the desire for isolationist policies on the other.
