Die Ehe ist eine der wichtigsten Institutionen der ghanaischen Sozialstruktur, die als Fundament der Familie dient. Ob traditionell, bürgerlich oder religiös, die gesamte Architektur der ghanaischen Familie dreht sich um die Ehe. Die Familie ist der wichtigste Aspekt jeder Gesellschaft. Es ist allgemein bekannt, dass die Zukunft jeder Gesellschaft davon abhängt, welche Art von Familie sie akzeptiert. Die primäre Funktion der Familie besteht darin, den Fortbestand der Gesellschaft zu sichern, sowohl biologisch durch Fortpflanzung als auch sozial durch Sozialisation. Als Urzelle des gesellschaftlichen Lebens dienen traditionelle Familien auch als natürliche Gesellschaft. Es ist daher die Aufgabe der Kirche, dafür zu sorgen, dass die Würde des Familienlebens geschützt, die Liebe zwischen den Beziehungen gepflegt und die Stabilität und die Sicherheit in der Familie herrschen. Ehe und Religion schließen sich nicht aus. Aus diesem Grund versucht diese Arbeit, die traditionelle Ehe und ihre derzeitigen pastoralen Implikationen für die katholische Kirche in Ghana zu untersuchen. Diese Arbeit wird auch die Werte offenlegen, die der traditionellen ghanaischen Ehe innewohnen, sowie die Herausforderungen, denen sich die Ehe in Ghana stellen muss. Die Institution Kirche existiert nicht isoliert, sondern immer im Kontext eines gegebenen sozioökonomischen Umfelds. Daher wird versucht, die Implikationen dieser Herausforderungen zu analysieren und zu untersuchen, wie sie sich direkt oder indirekt auf die pastorale Tätigkeit der Kirche in Ghana auswirken. Andere relevante zeitgenössische Bedrohungen für traditionelle und sakramentale Ehen werden diskutiert. Nachdem die traditionelle Eheschließung und die damit verbundenen Auswirkungen auf das pastorale Leben der Kirche erörtert wurden, werden schließlich mögliche Konsequenzen für die Kirche in Ghana untersucht. Hier werden einige Empfehlungen vorgelegt, die die Institution der traditionellen Ehe stärken und bewahren können.

Marriage is one of the important institutions of the Ghanaian social structure which serves as the bedrock of the family. Whether ttraditionally, civil, or religious, the entire architecture of the Ghanaian family revolves around marriage. The family is the most important aspect of every society. It is commonplace that the future of every society depends on the kind of family it accepts. The primary function of the family is to ensure the continuation of society, both biologically through procreation, and socially through socialization. As an original cell of the social life, traditional families also serve as natural society. It is therefore the responsibility of the church to make sure that the dignity of family life is protected, the love among relations is nurtured, and that there is stability and security in the family. Marriage and religion are not mutually exclusive. For this reason, this paper attempts to examine traditional marriage and its pastoral implications for the catholic church in contemporary Ghana. This work will also lay bare the values inherent in the Ghanaian traditional marriage as well as the challenges that confront marriage in Ghana. The church as an institution does not exist in isolation but always within the context of a given socio-economic environment. Attempts will therefore be made to further analyze the implications of these challenges and how they directly or indirectly affect the pastoral activity of the church in Ghana. Other relevant contemporary threats to traditional and sacramental marriages will be discussed. Finally, having discussed traditional marriage and its associated implications on the pastoral life of the church, the researcher will delve into the way forward for the church in Ghana. Here some recommendations that will enhance and preserve the institution of traditional marriage will be tabled.
