Walter Thirring spielt eine vollständige Version seiner "Suite Bourbonnaise". Über die Geschichte dieses Musikstücks schreibt er:
"Upon a visit to Moulin, the cradle of the Bourbon dynasty, I got hold of a book which describes the adventurous life of Jean Philippe de Bourbon.
He was the natural son of Charles de Bourbon, the Constable of France. When the latter deserted to the Emperor Charles V., Jean Philippe became persona non grata and tried to get to the court of the Emperor. Crossing to Spain his boat was hijacked by pirates and he was sold on the slave market in Cairo. He was bought by a Lord of the Queen of Saba's former kingdom, but escaped and managed to cross the Red Sea to reach India. There he made friends with a Mogul prince, and when the latter became Grand Mogul Akhbar, he was richly rewarded. Akhbar found a Christian wife in his harem and married her to Jean Philippe. They founded a maharajah dynasty still existing today. They are proud of their Bourbon ancestors.
This story evoked in me some music, but it is neither the music of the time of the Bourbons nor the music of today. It is just something which emanated from this old book."
