Description (de)
1. Vortrag im Rahmen der "Erwin Schrödinger Distinguished Lecture Series" Mitschnitt einer Veranstaltung des Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ) am Freitag, dem 18. März 2011 im Großen Festsaal der Universität Wien Teil 2: Vortrag Abstract: In a famous 1935 paper, Erwin Schroedinger pointed out the bizarre consequences of extrapolating the formalism of quantum mechanics to the level of everyday life: given a suitable experimental arrangement, it looks prima facie as if a cat inside a closed box cannot be said to be either alive or dead but is in a "quantum superposition" of these two very different states. Over much of the following 75 years, it was the general belief in the physics community that for various reasons it would be impossible to carry out meaningful experiments relevant to this fundamental paradox. However, over the last ten years or so various experiments have been done, in quite diverse areas of physics, which while they do not produce dead-and-alive cats nevertheless test the principle of quantum superposition at a level very much closer to our everyday experience than had been previously thought possible. This talk reviews some of these experiments and their implications for our view of physical reality. Sir Anthony J. Leggett ist Nobelpreisträger für Physik des Jahres 2003. Er arbeitet und lehrt an der University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, USA). INHALT ====== Kapitel Titel Position --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.
