Per- und polyfluorierte Alkylsubstanzen (PFAS) wurden und werden als Tenside in Feuerlöschschäumen eingesetzt. Die Anwendung PFAS-haltiger Feuerlöschschäume hat zu weitreichenden Umweltkontaminationen geführt. Ausgewählte PFAS dürfen bereits seit 2011 nicht mehr eingesetzt werden. Nun wird in der EU ein Verbot aller PFAS in Feuerlöschschäumen angestrebt.
