Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Visuelle Anthropologie; Audiodokumentation; Ethnographie und ethnographische Datenarchivierung; Verwandtschaft, tribale Identität in Nordafrika und Westasien; Islam; lokales historisches Wissen; Imazighen / Berber Marokkos.
