Abstract (eng)
Physical activity and sports can be a significant part of the lives of people with disabilities as well as a valuable medium of integration. Due to its variety of communication and interaction patterns, sport is a suitable field of joint actions of people with different conditions.
Therefore, one of the most important requirements for disabled people is an accessible infrastructure. Nevertheless, architectural barriers often lead to big difficulties for them.
Especially for wheelchair users, constructural barriers often cause mobility and access problems to buildings and recreation facilities.
Missing and unprepared facilities limit the participation of people with disabilities in various areas of life.
Based on these considerations, the purpose of this thesis was to check the accessibility of tennis clubs in the provinces of Vienna and Lower Austria, taking wheelchair tennis as an example.
Using a quantitative questionnaire allowed to record convenient and access restricted facilities and features of disabled people in the respective clubs.
The survey is based on current guidelines and recommendations for accessible sports facilities as well as for accessible design and construction according to Austrian standards.
In conclusion wheelchair tennis is one of the most popular wheelchair sports nowadays, but with regard to wheelchair-accessible facilities in the respective clubs there are some deficits to report.
