Abstract (eng)
Language, per se, is a social phenomenon, which, without dispute, expresses itself in geographic space. Beyond this fact there are a number of spatial language aspects to be found, which do not get specific recognition, especially within the German speaking geographic science community. Based on a sub-discipline of the Anglophone human geography, geolinguistics, a so-called Sprachengeographie has not really established itself in the German field of work. This actuality is at the centre of attention in this paper. Therefore, several cornerstones of a possible Sprachengeographie are defined and discussed – in further consequence a quest regarding language specific items within the Anglophone and German speaking geographic sciences is undertaken. This turns out to be a rather difficult and laborious endeavour, especially when it comes to German geography. Solely the linguistic sciences turn out to have valuable and constructive input for the designed discipline Sprachengeographie.
