Abstract (eng)
International Retirement Migration (IRM) is an emerging phenomenon, which to a large extent remains unexplored in the North-East of Thailand. The subject matter of International Retirement Migration is described based on the constructs Mobility, Tourism as well as Migration. This study explains socio-demographic characteristics of migrants and elaborates on motives of IRM in the North-East of Thailand. Studies have recognized the central role of previous (travel) experiences as well as the overlap between mobility, tourism and migration. To gain further insights in the stories of the commonly 50+ year old target group, problem-centric interviews were conducted in the empirical part. In the elaboration on the findings, three individual case studies allow for a detailed impression about motives of migration, occurring problems as well as different living situations of Retirement Migrants. This study links various factors to the phenomenon IRM and therefore contributes to a better understanding of migration processes.
