Nowadays, digital media have become an indispensable part of everyday and professional life. For this reason, it is also necessary to deal with technical progress in the school as an institution to prepare the children and young people accordingly. Therefore, the present work deals with the question to what extent the use of tablets influences the teaching and learning processes in DaZ lessons. Based on the theoretical background, it is assumed that tablets have a positive effect on individualization and differentiation options, individual skills in DaZ lessons are promoted in a different way, teaching structures change, as well as the tasks and role of the teachers change. Six guided interviews, which were carried out with teachers teaching German as a second language at secondary schools in Vienna, serve to answer the research question. The evaluation of the interviews was carried out with the qualitative content analysis according to Mayring. During the research, the as-sumptions were confirmed and the potential of tablets for DaZ lessons was examined in more detail. Based on the individualization and differentiation options, it is shown that tablets make a significant contribution to dealing with the heterogeneity in DaZ lessons and that the learners are guided towards self-directed learning.
