Description (eng)
AUGENARBEIT follows a pig eye from the butcher to the trash bin in the Vienna General Hospital. In doing so, it captures the mundane doings of researchers in an optical laboratory. Elaine Goldberg and Nora Ederer take an ethnographic approach to study science as culture and practice. With this, they pick up the laboratory study tradition in Science and Technology Studies – and transfer it into a visual ethnography.
AUGENARBEIT (2022) was made by Nora Ederer and Elaine Goldberg, in collaboration with Philipp Matten, Anja Britten, Tilman Schmoll at Zeiss lab / AKH Medical physics, during the Ma course "Visual Ethnographies of Science" at the Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology (KSA) of the University of Vienna. The course was taught by Sarah Davies and Sanderien Verstappen, with tutoring of Viktoria Paar.
