Abstract (eng)
A population of fire-bellied toads (Bombina bombina) in the "Seeschlacht" area in Upper Lobau, which has been the subject of population surveys for several years as part of a field course at the University of Vienna, was investigated in the activity period 2022. Using the capture-recapture method, the locations and movements of the fire-bellied toads within the area were identified. The total number of toad catches amounted to 866, of which 288 were individually registered toads. One or more local movements were recorded for 78 individuals of toads during the season, with a maximum distance of less than 400 m. Furthermore, the fire-bellied toad was detected in 30 of 36 water bodies in the area. The investigations also showed that the local movements increased when the groundwater level rose and decreased again when the groundwater level fell.
