Description (eng)
The world is currently facing strong demand for nickel, due to these energy, digital and mobility transitions, particularly for increasing production of batteries and electric vehicles (EVs). Nickel is considered a strategic and critical raw material because it is also used in the aerospace and defence sectors. The current uprisings, the considerable increase in nickel production in Indonesia and the Philippines, and soaring energy prices have all had an impact on the situation of the nickel sector in New Caledonia-Kanaky.

Title (eng)
Beyond Hot Air - Conversations around critical raw materials supply for the 'green' transition
Project description (eng)
Beyond Hot Air is a conversation. It is an international, multi-stakeholder initiative that explores the complex landscape of mineral raw materials supply for the ‘green’ transition. Especially critical raw materials (CRM) are a vital part of current forms of ‘green’ transition strategies and corresponding technologies, such as e-mobility, renewable energy and communication technologies. In Europe’s backyard, mining for critical minerals is thus set to increase.
