The FWF-funded project “Uses of civil justice and social policy” (Grant
DOI: 10.55776/P34380) has been a first-time study into the intellectual, social and institutional dimensions of the legal procedural reforms in the Habsburg Monarchy and produced a large-scale dataset on the uses of civil justice in the Habsburg Monarchy between 1910 and 1912.

The Legal Statistical Database (LSD) builds upon the legal statistical publications of the Statistical Central Commission and the Hungarian Central Statistical Office between 1910 and 1912. The available tabular data on the activities of civil courts was OCRed; data inaccuracies were manually corrected. Due to the different statistical practices and legal regulations, the LSD contains different sets of legal statistical data for Cisleithania and for Hungary (excluding Croatia-Slavonia).
The LSD includes the following datasets:
• legal statistical data on Cisleithania for 1910–12 on the level of district courts (Bezirksgericht, 934 regional units):
1. on first-instance legal proceedings (91 variables on dunning proceedings, small claims proceedings, other litigious cases, foreclosures, inheritance proceedings, guardianship).
2. and on court infrastructure (14 variables on the number of personnel at courts by type, number of lawyers and notaries).
