Giovanni Pietro Bellori (1613 - 1696) war ein italienischer Antiquar, Bibliothekar, Kunst- und Antiquitätensammler, Kunsttheoretiker und Kunsthistoriker. Er war u.a. Sekretär der Accademia di San Luca, wurde von Clemens X. zum Oberaufseher der Antiken in Rom ernannt, und war ab 1680 der Bibliothekar der Königin Christine von Schweden. Bellori war einer der ersten Kunsttheoretiker, der nicht selbst überwiegend Künstler war. Sein Buch über das Leben zeitgenössischer Künstler, in dem er unter anderem über Poussin, Carracci, Rubens und Caravaggio schreibt, ist eine ergiebige und wichtige Quelle für die Kunst des 17. Jahrhunderts in Rom. 1693 veröffentlichte er ein Buch über römische Antiken, das noch heute als Quelle für die Archäologie genutzt wird.

He was secretary of the Accademia di San Luca, was appointed Clement X's Prefect of Antiquities and from 1680 was librarian to Queen Christine of Sweden . Bellori was one of the first art theorists who was not primarily an artist himself. His book on the lives of contemporary artists is one of the most proliferate sources on 17th century art in Rome, treating among others Poussin, Carracci, Rubens and Caravaggio. In 1693 he published a book on Roman antiquities, which is still a useful source for archaeologists today.
